8mm Film transfered to HD
By Melissa Ramos
My connection to the Philippines are deeply rooted in my parents, they are the bridge to some part of myself & so my process for my artwork was apparent to me when I took the opportunity when my parents visited the Philippines this year in March.
I gave them a super 8 camera, with 2 rolls of 8mm film and asked them to film what they remember the most about the Philippines, asking them to rewrite their memories.
“I will have spent my life trying to understand the function of remembering, which is not the opposite of forgetting, but rather its lining. We do not remember, we rewrite memory, much as history is rewritten. How can one remember thirst?”
